THYGARJA PANCHARATNAM ( Own Composition)

Sri Thyagaraja Pancharatnam, in five slokas, is a composition by professor Krishna Murthy on the occasion of the149th Aradhana of saint Sri Thyagaraja. It was placed at his lotus feet at the Samadhi in Tiruvaiyaru on January 9, 1996. The Slokas describe the spiritual and devotional fervour of the first of the Trinity of the composers in Carnatic music.

1.l Kaveri theera sumanohara vasa bhavyam jignasa bhava bhava bhara vidura chetam
Ajnana meghajita Bhaskara thulya murtim Dyayamideva manisam Guru Thyagarajam!

I meditate always on Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja who resides on the serene and heart capturing              banks of river Cauveri and who is spiritual to the utmost and whose mind and heart are far removed from the mundane world! He is the embodiment of the Sun who scatters away the dense clouds of ajnana or ignorance!

2. Sri Naradiya swara sagaralabdha jnanim Valmiki mouni vara data vara prasadam
Karunya purna jaladhim kavi magraganyam Dhyayami devamanisam Guru Thyagarajam!

I meditate on Sadguru Thyagaraja who obtained knowledge of music through ‘Swararnava’ presented to him by Sage Narada! He is said to be the avatar of adikavi Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana. He is the ocean of compassion and the greatest among poets and composers!

3 Arama hema dhanalobha vihina vruttim Sri Rama taraka mahatmya vimoha chittam
Sahitya gita rachanadbhuta sakthivantam Dhyayami deva manisam Guru Thyagarajam!

I meditate always on Sadguru Thyagaraja who is totally detached from mundane things like home, gold and other material things! He is totally immersed in and has indescribable love for the ‘Rama tharaka nama’! He is capable of composing wonderful songs with literary nuances and flourish!

4. Sri Rama bhakthi rasapana vimagna chittam Sri Ramanama japadhyana vilola netram
Sri Rama pujana rathaika karam pavitram Dhyayami devamanisam Guru Thyagarajam!

I meditate always on Sadguru Thyagaraja who always drinks deep the elixir of the name of Sri Rama! He is for ever involved in chanting the name of Sri Rama with half opened eyes! His pure hands are always busy in worshipping his Lord Sri Rama!

5. Sri Ramachandra charanambuja matta bhringam Vairagya marga chara manasa baddha diksham
Devadi Deva prameswara bhakti yuktam Dhyayami Deva manisam Guru Thyagarajam!

I meditate always on Sadguru Thyagaraja who is drawn like the bee to the lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra! He has taken the vow to follow the path of Vairagya or non attachment! He is also an ardent devotee of Parmeswara, the God of all Gods!
