Can science make man really happy?

From the time of Industrial Revolution there has been a tremendous upsurge of science and Technology, which has totally transformed the life of man!! Man can now fly into the skies, travel by bullet trains, ships & steamers!! He has now plans to settle in Mars & Moon and exploit their natural resources! Consequently he has become a slave of science & technology!! Every thing in the world is at his beck and call and he is now very comfortable in his life! Inventions and discoveries are still on as the mind of man is ever inquisitive for more and more knowledge!! Much benefit has accrued to man by these scientific inventions & discoveries! But at the same time it is doubtful whether Science & Technology has totally made the life of man happy!! Along with these inventions, dreadful and destructive aspects of science have raised their ugly heads!! Discoveries & inventions, intended for good causes are now being used for terrible wars & annihilation of mankind! The Atom and Hydrogen bombs came out of Einstein's theory of Relativity! With the nuclear arsenal of the big powers any thing can happen at any time!!

Gross and total dedication of man to material pleasures & existence has made his life miserable! He has no peace of mind because there is no ceiling on his desires!! One desire leads to another and to the next! Ambition overtakes him! He is tormented by the vicissitudes of samsara or family life with children and other relations!! He yearns for mental peace that eludes him time and again!! Money, material, progeny and his own actions, instead of bringing contentment egg him on to go further!!

The panacea for all the ills of humanity is spirituality!! What is Spirituality? It is not a religion. It is not a ritual!  It is a state of mind that every individual has to cultivate for his own good! It is a realization that the Spirit embedded in our heart is manifest in every other creature in the universe!! Like the clay that is the same while pots are of many shapes & sizes, milk being the same though from different cattle, like the gold which is made into different ornaments, the spirit that is in us is manifest in all! "ekah paratma bahu deha varthi!" Realization of this simple truth shall bring a total transformation in man and bring him peace of mind! He will become honest; feel for others and go out to help them; understand and appreciate other's difficulties, extend his Love for others! He loses his EGO in the service of others and considers service to man as service to god!! He will no more be a cheat, fraudster, murderer or a rapist!! His life, thenceforth, shall be full of satisfaction & contentment!

Thus material pleasures can never offer everlasting peace and happiness! Man mistakes the ordinary pleasures of life as happiness! He should realize that they are all ephemeral as his life!! Real happiness & peace of mind lies in developing the quality of Spirituality and radiate love to every thing that surrounds us! Science & Technology is not the be all and end all of life!
