IS MAN PERFECT?

Man is bundle of imperfections. No man is born without any fault. People are born dumb, deaf, lame and have various deformities in body and mind. There are many robust in their body and constitution but weak in their mind and autistic. Some are weak and emaciated but strong and active in their mental activity. A few more are partially or totally blind and cannot enjoy the beauty of this wonderful world! One kind of disease or other troubles most of the people in the world. The rich man has all the luxuries of the world but cannot eat to his fill because of diabetes!  Many are obese and try to reduce their weight by any means while others, weak in body, try various means to put on weight. Thus our life is a mixture of various complexities that worry us throughout our existence!

Is there any relief from these imperfections in man?why should man be born with these liabilities?  Why should God bring into existence people with deformities and disabilities? Is God partial? These are a few questions commonly asked! The answers are not far to seek! A few people call this unmerited suffering! But nothing in the world is caused without a reason. No effect can occur without a cause. Hinduism believes in the theory of karma and rebirth. According to that  man is involved in the cycle of birth and death! He takes innumerable births or janmas and performs various acts or karmas good and bad. The effects of his good and bad deeds visit upon him at every birth at regular intervals of time punctually. His good deeds in the past give him happiness and prosperity while the bad deeds make him suffer untold miseries! None can escape from the effects of his own karma! The accumulated karma in his innumerable births is so great that man has to take endless births to
experience the effects of the same.

With all these imperfections and disabilities man is under the delusion that he is perfect!  Apart from his bodily defects, mental aberrations, he has to fight a very unequal fight with the invincible inner enemies, six in number--” arishadvargas'”. These are embedded eternally in every individual and are formidable because they are invisible! These adversaries are “ kama-desire,  krodha-anger,lobha-miserliness, moha- attachment, mada- arrogance and pride, and matsarya- envy, hatred.Man has to fight a losing battle against each of these enemies! He is finally overpowered by each one of these antagonists! The first enemy, desire, is the root cause of his rise and fall. It raises him to the pinnacle of glory but at the same time dumps him into the abysmal regions of failure and ignominy!!The others are the offshoots of desire! Anger makes him imbalanced and he behaves without realizing the consequence of his action! He becomes miserly and selfish! He is more attached to mundane things and kith and kin. He develops arrogance and pride. Enveloped and entangled in these unavoidable attachments he enjoys and suffers alternately!

Despite these defects and deficiencies man thinks that he is perfect and gloats ever his birth and performance! He always plays down his faults and magnifies those of others. When he points a finger at others, three fingers point to him. In other words for every defect or mistake in others, he has three defects in himself! “ It is a sin to accuse others when there is a mountain of evil within you. Happiness is obtained not when desires are fulfilled, but when desires are destroyed” asserts Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba.It is meaningless to criticize others when one has so many defects in himself. It is the nature of man to find faults in others. He readily takes in the evil in others and neglects the good in them. This tendency in him has to be curbed.

Let everyone cultivate the habit of seeing the good in others and try to imitate those qualities! With so many innate negative propensities, man has only a few desirable good qualities. Let them be cherished and cultivated. It is not impossible for man to lead a happy life if he sees the good in others and avoid the defects in himself! In spite of his inherent enemies and defects man has been blessed with intellect and discrimination to live happily on earth!
