Lakshmi Kalathram lalithabja nethram
Purnendu vakthram puruhutha mitram
Karunya patram kamaniya gatram
Vande pavitram Vasudeva putram!
Leela Shuka describes his darling Krishna as the essence of beauty and other adorable qualities! He is the very embodiment of Satya or Trutth, Jnana or wisdom, and Ananda or Bliss! He has destroyed the asuras full of maya! He is with His spouse Satyabhama! He is devoid of the fluctuations of the sensesl He has transcended the activities of karmendriyas as well as jnanendryas! He is capable of warding off terrible obstacles and troubles! Above all He is the treasure for those with pure hearts!
Leela Shuka describes a few more qualities of Krishna, his chosen deity! “ He is the husband of Lakshmi Devi, Goddess of Wealth! His eyes are extraordinarily beautiful like the lotus flower! His face is beautiful like the full moon! Not only this, He is the friend of Indra, king of all Gods! He is the repository of compassion! His body is beautiful beyond description! Above all He is epitome and embodiment of purity and perfection! I bow down to such Krishna, the son of Vasudeva!!”
It is not given to all to have such a great and beautiful wife! Goddess Lakshmi is no ordinary damsel! She is the daughter of the Lord of the ocean of milk! When the Devas and Asuras churned the ocean of milk to obtain the elixir of life, Amirta, terrible poison emerged from the mouth of Vasuki, the king of snakes! Afterwards many precious things and individuals came out of the ocean! Chandra the Moon God emerged and Graceful Lakshmi followed him! Hence She is called the sister of Chandra! She preferred to marry Vishnu and to honor Her, God Vishnu settled Her on His own Chest! Thus God Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are inseparable!! Krishna is the incarnation of Vishnu and hence all His attributes eminently match Krishna!
Innumerable stotras on Vishu and Krishna speak about the beauty of His face and eyes! “ Krishnam Kamala patraksham nila jimuta sannibham”-Krishna’s eyes are broad and beautiful like the petals of the lotus! He is of the color of the black rain bearing cloud! He is “purnendu nibha vaktram”-of the graceful and beautiful face of the full moon! Vishnu is always a friend and guide to all Devas! He is called “Upendra!” He goes to Swargaloka and gets the renowned Parijatha plant to satisfy the desire of his spouse Satyabhama!!On many occasions Vishnu helped Indra and the Devas. He took the form of Mohini and distributed Amrita to the Devas!
In fact Krishna is the personification of compassion and there is not a single occasion when He did not come to the rescue of His dear Bhakthas or devotees! The stories child Dhruva and Prahlada are classical examples. When Gajendra surrendered himself to the Lord and prayed for relief, He ran from Vaikunta without informing Laksmi or Garuda and others of His train! In fact, Krishna Avatar has come into being out of mere compassion for His Bhakthas suffering at the hands of cruel, evil minded asuras! It is also out of pity and compassion for confused Arjuna on the Kurukshetra battle field that Krishna disabuses his mind and guides him to victory! He clears all the doubts of Arjuna and wants him to be non attached and do his duty properly! The result shall surely match his efforts! He tells Arjuna that the body and the Atma are totally different. Atma is permanent, indestructible, body impermanent subject to destruction! Can there be anyone purer than God Himself? Krishna is Paramatma, the Absolute Brahman, in human form!! It is no surprise that Leela Sukha has taken refuge in Him who alone can grant mukti or salvation!!
