In
the fifth anuvaka, vyahruti upasana that forms the limbs of the Brahman has
been described. The person who does this upasana will be eligible for
Brahmopadesa. The exact place from where one can realize the Brahman and other
details are explained in this anuvaka.
Mantra:
sa ya eshontarhruda akasa thasminnayam purusho manomayaha…
Meaning:In
order to realize the parabrahman and perform upasana, the right place is the
lotus shaped heart-“ hrudaya pundarika.” As the saligrama stone is recommended
for Vishnu worship, the lotus shaped heart is considered the best place for the upasana of the
Parabrahman. By this upasana of the Brahman in the lotus shaped heart,
comprehension of the Brahman-- that is manomaya becomes a child’s play.
The lotus shaped heart is a lump of flesh
which has many cavities that form the base for innumerable nerves. It has a
cavity upwards as well as downwards. In that space of the heart lies the
Purusha. He is called ‘ manomaya’, immortal and effulgent. The path to reach
the purusha in the space of the heart is indicated here. The nadi ( nerve) that
rises above the heart is called ‘ sushumna.’ This lies in the middle of
‘talukas ( jaws). There is a lump of flesh suspended from the center of the
talukas. By piercing through the center of this suspended portion and clearing
the top area one can realize the Paramatma. A person who can impel the “
sushamna nadi to pierce the skull and come out will be established in the’
bhuhu’ vyahruti fire. In other words he will pervade the world in the form of
Agni or fire.
In the same way he is established in’
mahaha’ and ‘ bhuvaha’ vyahrutis that are vayu oriented. Then he is established
in’ suvaha’ and Aditya. He pervades the world in that form. Thus with the
feeling of the Brahman he attains independence—swarajya. He will be the ruler
of all’ manas’ he will also be the head of all speech, eyes, ears and vijnana (
science). He will attain special powers and obtain a subtle body unaffected by
floods or sorrow. He will become the form of “ satya or Truth, Murtha—qualities
of earth, water and light, amrutha—qualities of vayuand akasa. He also becomes Pranarama—one who activates the prana
in the body, one who is happy and peaceful and finally the form of Paramathma
himself.
Thus the renowned preceptor by name Mahachamasya called his disciple
Prachinayogya and directed him to do upasana in this manner.
1Purisayanah purshaha—He is called Purusha
as he lies in the heart or body.
2Purnathwath purushaha—As he is full always
he is called Purusha. By whom the earth and other l kas are filled he is called
Purusha
